ZYN Expands Lineup with 1.5mg and 8mg Strengths, Increases Can Count to 20 Pouches

On September 9, 2026, PMI U.S. announced that its flagship ZYN dry pouch line now spans four strengths, adding a 1.5 mg entry point and an 8 mg step below the ZYN Ultra range. The company also said that in the fourth quarter, its 3 mg and 6 mg cans will move from 15 pouches to 20.

According to the company's press release, the ZYN dry lineup now comes in 1.5 mg, 3 mg, 6 mg, and 8 mg strengths across 13 flavors, including popular options like ZYN Cool Mint, Wintergreen, and Coffee ZYN. The 1.5 mg option is the lightest ZYN ever sold in the U.S. and is aimed at adults who found 3 mg too strong or who want a lower-nicotine option for daytime use.
The 8 mg option fills the gap between the long-standing 6 mg and the moist ZYN Ultra pouches, which launched in June at 9 mg and 11 mg. The second change is the can itself. PMI U.S. said that during the fourth quarter of 2026, the 3 mg and 6 mg dry variants will transition to 20 pouches per can, matching the 20-count format ZYN Ultra already uses.
"Consumer choice matters," said PMI U.S. CEO Stacey Kennedy, framing the shift as aligning the "value proposition" across the whole ZYN range.
The company did not disclose whether the suggested price per can will change with the extra five pouches.
Strategic Timing and Supply Chain
The timing was telegraphed. In its second-quarter report on July 22, Philip Morris International said U.S. ZYN shipments rose 1.8% to 2.9 billion pouches. The report described the June launch of ZYN Ultra at a lower price per pouch as a step toward "optimizing ZYN's price premium." The Regulatory Landscape
The FDA has authorized two batches of ZYN products for the U.S. market: 20 ZYN nicotine pouches in January 2025 and 11 ZYN Ultra pouches in August 2026. On June 30, 2026, the agency also granted modified-risk orders that let the original 20 ZYN products advertise a specific reduced-exposure claim relative to cigarettes, the first such orders for any nicotine pouch.
